Pie Squared—An All American Celebration of Pie
What’s more American than John Wayne and Pie?
Pie really is an American icon—much like John Wayne—so combining Pie Squared with the John Wayne Birthday Celebration was a natural union and by all accounts a good one! Last year over 2000 pieces of genuine homemade pie of every imaginable kind (baked by the “church ladies” of Madison County) were consumed by Pie Squared attendees!
So join us on Saturday, May 26th from 12:30pm until 3:00pm for the SECOND ANNUAL Pie Squared—An All American Celebration of Pie event in conjunction with the John Wayne Birthday Celebration. Pie stations will be set up around the historic Madison County Courthouse Square and tasting tickets will be available for one dollar each. Each ticket will be good for one taste (one tenth of a pie) and attendees can sample as many homemade pies as they choose. Savor the delights from the legendary “church ladies” from all over Madison County, who will be baking over 225 pies. The proceeds will be split between the participating churches and the Madison County Chamber of Commerce which provides community programs and services to residents of Madison County. In addition to pie, ice cream and fresh squeezed lemonade will be available.
Ride An Authentic Irish Jaunting Car
From the opening scenes of The Quiet Man until the movie’s happy conclusion, the uniquely Irish jaunting car jogs along throughout the film. Driven by matchmaker Michaeleen Oge Flynn, the horse drawn cart delivers Sean Thornton to Inisfree and carries Sean and Mary Kate in their delightful courting scenes,
It’s easier to find a leprechaun in Madison County than an authentic jaunting car, but we’ve got one exclusively for this event which will be available for rides on Saturday, May 26th for our evocative salute to The Quiet Man. Just $10. You’ll feel as close to the film as one can on this side of the Atlantic!

SPECIAL MUSEUM BENEFIT DINNER AUCTION

Shannon Rovers Irish Pipe Band
Most of us call them "bagpipes" but for 500 years the Irish have referred to them as “warpipes.” This distinction is especially appropriate to the Shannon Rovers. Organized in Chicago in the 1920s by Tommie Ryan, Pat Roche and other veterans of Ireland’s recent War of Independence, these award-winning musicians are today considered among the premiere pipe and drum bands in the United States. In their storied career, which includes thousands of performances, the Shannon Rovers have played for Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, George W. Bush and Barack Obama and even Pope John Paul II.
The John Wayne Birthplace is exceptionally proud to welcome the Rovers to Winterset where their deafening pipes will salute The Quiet Man—their favorite movie—with tunes familiar to all fans of the classic film. See more about them at www.shannonrovers.com
