Claude Jarman Jr. and Duke

Special Guest of Honor Claude Jarman Jr.

Our very special guest of honor at this year’s John Wayne Birthplace Museum Benefit Dinner is Academy Award®-winning actor Claude Jarman Jr. After a nationwide talent search he won the coveted role of Jody Baxter in The Yearling and, still in his teens, was selected by legendary director John Ford to play John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara's son, Trooper Jefferson Yorke, in Rio Grande. At the Museum Benefit Dinner Mr. Jarman will greet fans and admirers of this cavalry classic and discuss his experiences of working alongside Wayne, O’Hara, Harry Carey, Jr., Ben Johnson and Victor McLaglen. He might even provide pointers on the Roman ride he performed so expertly for Sgt. Quincannon.

The first 500 to reserve for the Benefit Dinner also receive a FREE DVD of She Wore A Yellow Ribbon as a keepsake to take home with you!

NEW! Special Reception for Birthplace Museum Benefit Dinner Attendees only
Unveiling of the model of John Wayne’s beloved yacht, the Wild Goose

Saturday, May 28th, 3pm at the John Wayne Birthplace

John Wayne's yacht the Wild Goose model

Photo by John Gaps III, www.madhausgallery.com

From the High Plains to the High Seas:

The John Wayne Birthplace is very excited to announce our latest acquisition, an exquisitely detailed model of John Wayne’s beloved yacht, the Wild Goose. In the mid-1970s, United States Coast Guardsman David Danz was assigned to the Point Divide, a patrol vessel assigned to monitor drug smuggling operations off the coast of southern California. Encountering the Wild Goose at Catalina Island, as a goodwill gesture, his crew volunteered to ”guard” the famous yacht. Danz so enjoyed the friendly banter between his crew and the actor that he soon began building his model which he planned to present to Wayne for his office. Unfortunately, the model was not completed by the time of Wayne’s passing so it was displayed in Danz’s home until he learned about the mission of the John Wayne Birthplace. We are very grateful to Mr. Danz for his generosity in sharing this labor of love with the thousands of dedicated John Wayne fans who visit the Birthplace each year.

Guests attending the John Wayne Birthplace Museum Benefit Dinner on May 27th are invited to come to the Birthplace home at 3pm on May 28th for a special reception where this treasured gift will be unveiled. On hand will be Duke’s daughter Aissa, who grew up on the Wild Goose, and Capt. Shawn Ware of Hornblower Cruises, present custodians of what is possibly the most famous privately owned yacht in the United States. Please join us for what promises to be a very memorable gathering!

Attendance at this exclusive event is included with your purchase of tickets to the Birthplace Museum Benefit Dinner on May 27th.

There’s only a limited number of tickets available, so don’t delay!
