The 100th Anniversary of John Wayne Commemorative Saddle, Valued at $10,000 was won by Tom Farris of Taneyville, Missouri! On December 29, 2007, Birthplace of John Wayne manager Carolyn Wilson drew the winning raffle ticket at Irwin Auto from the entries received over the past several months as part of the John Wayne Birthday Centennial Celebration in Winterset. Irwin Auto of Winterset and the Grant Irwin Jr. family teamed up with the Birthplace of John Wayne to raise funds for the new John Wayne Birthplace Museum & Learning Center. Irwin Auto covered all the costs and donated the saddle for the raffle. Tom Farris purchased his ticket stub number 810 at the Birthplace earlier this year. He was contact by phone as soon as the ticket was drawn and was delighted to hear of his good fortune. Mike and Patty Green of Irwin Auto delivered the limited edition, $10,000 value saddle to the Farris home in Taneyville, Missouri on January 5th. Tom, his wife Deb and their family had quite a festive time as the saddle and accessories were unpacked. The decor in their home clearly indicated they were big John Wayne fans! Tom immediately set the saddle up in a specially reserved space in their home. Additional gifts provided by the Birthplace of John Wayne were wonderful additions as well. Both Tom and Deb could not believe they had won such a treasure. The limited edition saddle by Circle Y was exclusively selected by Wayne Enterprises to celebrate the 100th birthday of John Wayne. Inspired by the original on display at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, this saddle features a hand-tooled floral pattern that covers the entire saddle, brass rigging, sterling silver Mexican Pesos conchos, a rawhide leather braided riata, a custom-made wood stand with tooled leather medallions, informative DVD and a book about John Waynes film history. Irwin Auto of Winterset and the Grant Irwin Jr. family teamed up with the John Wayne Birthplace to raffle off this stunning saddle. All proceeds will be donated to the John Wayne Birthplace Society and the NEW John Wayne Museum & Learning Center. All costs covered and donated by Irwin Auto Co. of Winterset. |
